Frequently Ask Questions
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we are currently accepting new patients!
What if I don't know if we're a good fit?
I totally understand, I’ve been there. I offer a FREE 15-minute Clarity Call where you can ask me any questions. Additionally, if you choose to move forward with me and you complete labs prior to your first appointment, this will save you the cost of an entire appointment as you’re ahead of the game.
How much does lab testing cost?
The cost of testing will vary depending on your needs as we offer a wide variety of specialty testing. We recommend starting off with a GI Map stool test.
You may also choose not to order testing and proceed with the consultations only.
Do you offer remote appointments?
Yes! Our consultation practice is 100% online. We have patients throughout the United States and around the world.
We can arrange video conferencing or a phone call for any of your appointments. We can also set up appointments outside of our normal hours to accommodate different time zones.
For Functional Medicine clients, we can usually arrange for blood, stool, hair, or urine test kits to be sent to your home. Alternatively we are networked with hundreds of testing centers around the country and will find one near you.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance at this time. Insurance companies operate on a model of “sick care” and, unfortunately, do not cover Functional Medicine models of health care. If you are one who is unable to afford care, we offer a sliding scale for those experiencing financial difficulty.
Is functional medicine right for me?
Functional Medicine bridges the gap between conventional medical approaches and personalized patient care.
Our comprehensive Functional Medicine appointments are tailored to provide ample time for thorough discussion of your health concerns. During your initial hour-long consultation, Dr. Max will carefully review your medical history and any previous test results.
The primary objective of Functional Medicine is to swiftly identify and address the underlying factors contributing to your health issues. Throughout your treatment journey, your personalized care plan will be regularly reassessed and fine-tuned as needed. Dr. Max remains accessible via email between appointments to address any queries or concerns.
With access to advanced diagnostic testing not typically available in standard medical settings, Dr. Max delves deep to uncover potential root causes behind your symptoms. Often, conditions deemed as having an unknown cause are simply awaiting a thorough investigation.
I have been told all my tests are normal, how are your tests different?
Typically, hospital-administered tests aim to categorize your symptoms into a medical diagnosis. However, these conventional medical tests, while crucial, frequently overlook numerous significant factors such as chronic infections, heavy metal toxicity, nutrient deficiencies, tissue inflammation, hormonal imbalances, immune system disruptions, and other critical imbalances.
During your comprehensive new patient evaluation, we utilize this as a foundation. From there, we proceed to order tailored testing to delve deeper into understanding your body’s functionality and identifying any obstacles hindering your healing process.
Is functional medicine just using supplements instead of pharmaceuticals to treat my condition?
When practiced effectively, Functional Medicine offers more than just temporary relief. Merely relying on simple supplementation is seldom sufficient for addressing complex conditions.
Similar to how symptom-suppressing medications fail to address the root cause of symptoms, substituting pharmaceutical pills with supplements remains inadequate.
For instance, if you’re experiencing joint pain, instead of resorting to steroids, we delve into potential causes such as bacterial infections, allergic reactions, immune responses, or parasitic reactions within your body.
Regardless of the underlying cause, our approach is personalized to your needs, and as you progress, we adapt the treatment plan accordingly.
Is it important to have a primary care physician while working with Dr. Max?
Yes, we recommend that you have a primary care physician while working with Dr. Max, as he does not handle medical or mental health emergencies.
Dr. Max is a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) and a practitioner of Functional Medicine. His services are not meant to replace those of a family practitioner but to be used in conjunction with them.
